1 Mbit/s × 3600 s = 3600 Mbit; ÷ 8 = 450 MB = 0.45 GB per hour.

Exact formula

GB = R_Mbps · h · 0.45. TB = GB / 1000. Limits: decimal GB, no RAID parity, no file-system overhead, extras count only if you add their hours.

Frequently asked questions

Why 0.45?

1 Mbit/s for an hour is 3600 Mbit. Divide by 8 bits per byte: 450 MB, or 0.45 GB.

TiB or TB?

This uses decimal TB (1000 GB) like drive labels. Windows shows binary units under the same name, so 4.5 TB appears there as about 4.09 TB.

Audio and extras?

Use the file’s overall bitrate, which already includes audio; a TrueHD Atmos track alone often averages 3–6 Mbit/s. Add bonus features as extra hours.
